More Information On Notre Dame
You have probably been hearing of the Notre Dame since you were born since it has been there since the fourteenth century. Various historical figures had their coronations in the Notre Dame, making it an excellent site. UNESCO recognized the value of Notre Dame and had it marked as a world heritage site. Early this year, there was an accident in the Notre Dame. The media had a field day when the cathedral caught fire. A lot of investigations have been done to look into what happened to the Notre Dame, and we will be giving a summary of the events in this article.
Investigations would reveal that, unlike people thought, the fire that almost brought the cathedral to an end, was brought about by errors at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Several firefighters and architects came together at the start of the twenty-first century to try and look into what could be done for the cathedral in terms of safety because there were no precautions in place. If the Notre Dame were at the time constructed with polycarbonate translucent wall panels, maybe there would have been no need for safety precautions at the time. To preserve the cathedral’s original design, the team brought on to install safety systems voted against an automatic sprinkler system in the attic. At the time, nobody thought that this error would almost bring the foundation that has been in existence for all these years to an end.
The fire was detected too late, which would not have been the case had translucent wall panels been in place. On the fateful day, a new security guard was sent to investigate what had caused the fire alarm to go off, but he would not confirm there was a fire until it was too late.
The fire proved to be impossible to beat from the inside because it had covered most of the attic. The firefighters at the scene had to evacuate the building because the weakening of the cathedral’s spire caused the roof to collapse. Since putting out the fire took too long, the altar and the roof of the cathedral were completely destroyed.
There were varying ideas on the reconstruction of the cathedral. Some were for the idea that the same design be used whereas others opted for a more modern route, such as the use of translucent wall panels. Most people were of the opinion that polycarbonate translucent wall panels be used. The polycarbonate translucent wall panels received a lot of attention because they would allow the cathedral to unfold into an open-air gathering. However, the translucent wall panels idea was shot down as French officials voted for the restoration of the cathedral in its former design. The plans for the reconstruction of the Notre Dame are still underway.
